For this project we we had the task converting the derelict wing of Bodmin jail into a horror cinema, being inspired by the Stephen King book and film 'The Shining'. I wanted to create not only a cinema but experience converting the building into an abandoned hotel, using the cells left in the site as screening rooms. The client would explore around the 'hotel' and pick a screen.
Each of the floors will use materials and light to exaggerate the length of the space and make the user feel more isolated in the space. The use of red lighting also creates more shadows and reduces visibility.
